Nest Building
Apr 24, 2009 -
This eastern phoebe has started to build her nest in what looks to be a precarious place.
-
Spending the Night
Apr 29, 2009 -
The female has been spending her nights on the nest. She still seems to be finishing it, but hopefully eggs will be coming soon.
-
Only Roosting
May 01, 2009 -
There hasn't been much activity lately, but the female is still using the nest to roost at night.
-
-
Three Eggs
May 06, 2009 -
Day three brings a third egg to the phoebe nest.
-
Four Eggs
May 08, 2009 -
Having laid the fourth egg yesterday, the female may lay a fifth later this morning. However, the clutch may also be complete.
-
Large Clutch
May 11, 2009 -
This phoebe female has her work cut out for her with 7 eggs in that nest.
-
Incubation
May 13, 2009 -
The female has started incubating her very large clutch of seven eggs.
-
Six Eggs?
May 15, 2009 -
It seems one of the eggs has disappeared. We're unsure as to how.
-
Then There were Five
May 18, 2009 -
After going through the images for the last few days, it was discovered that it was the female Eastern Phoebe who inadvertently knocked the eggs out of her nest.
-
Incubating
May 20, 2009 -
The female is still incubating five eggs. The cam host has indicated that two of them are cowbird eggs.
-
Hatching Day
May 22, 2009 -
The chicks are starting to hatch today. So far, there is one. It is hard to tell if it is a phoebe chick or a cowbird chick.
-
Feeding Time
May 26, 2009 -
It looks as if two of the four eggs have hatched. It is still hard to get a definitive look to see who are the cowbirds.
-
Seeing the Cowbird
May 27, 2009 -
In this image you can clearly see the very large cowbird chick. There are also three much smaller phoebe chicks behind it.
-
Brooding
May 29, 2009 -
The cowbird chick is so large that the female has a hard time brooding the nest at night.
-
Cowbird Chick
Jun 01, 2009 -
By this point, the cowbird chick is actually larger than the female phoebe. It is difficult to tell if any of the phoebe chicks are still surviving.
-
Phoebe Chicks
Jun 03, 2009 -
Now that the cowbird chick has fledged, we can finally see the three remaining phoebe chicks. All seem to be doing well.
-
Two Weeks Old
Jun 05, 2009 -
It is almost the two week birthday for these chicks. The phoebe chicks began hatching May 25th. They should fledge sometime around June 11th. However, it could be later because of the cowbird.
-
No Room
Jun 08, 2009 -
The nest is full. However, it is nice to note that these are all the phoebe chicks.
-
Lots of Movement
Jun 10, 2009 -
The three chicks are moving around an awful lot this morning. All three of them are barely able to fit in that nest.
-
Fledge Day
Jun 12, 2009 -
The chicks finally leave the nest, right on schedule!
