Anyone can monitor nests - it's a rewarding way to spend time outdoors and participate in science.

NestWatch is a continentwide citizen-science project and nest-monitoring database of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, funded by the National Science Foundation and developed in collaboration with the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center.

This project is based upon work supported by the National Science Foundation under grant No. 0540185. Any opinions, findings, and conclusions or recommendations expressed in these materials are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the National Science Foundation.

NestWatch News - September 2009

New Monthly NestWatch Drawing
Each month, one lucky winner will be chosen at random to win the NestWatch focal species poster by artist Pedro Fernandes. How do you enter to win? Simply enter your nest observations online.

Nest Site Variation
The variety of places birds use to build nests can make nest and egg identification challenging. We have created a web page to illustrate the diversity of nest sites, even among the most common species.

End of Season Data Entry
The nesting season has all but come to a close. Try getting your data entered by the end of September. If not, the database will be open until the end of the year, December 31, 2009.

We Need Your Support!
Please pledge your support of NestWatch today. All gifts over $25 will receive an eastern or western version of the Common Nesting Birds poster, mailed in a tube and frame-ready.
