Introducing our new FeederWatch Participant Cam generously hosted by Tammie Haché:
Manitouwadge is smack dab in the middle of the Boreal Forest, just north of Lake Superior in northern Ontario, Canada. The region consists of small mountain ranges, millions of lakes and swamps with an assortment of hard and softwood trees, wild berries, etc.
I am an amateur bird watcher and photographer. My feeders are set up in the middle of my backyard and are surrounded by (small, for now) apple, crabapple, spruce and pine trees and various mixed flowerbeds. A softwood forest is just outside of the back fence, a medium sized lake is only 2 streets over plus we have a small backyard pond with waterfall and 2 birdbaths. The feeder system consists of a 7 foot tall pole with a platform feeder attached 4 feet up and hooks for 3 feeders around the top. I supply black oil sunflower seed, nectar feeders and seed bells. In winter, I add suet and peanut butter feeders. Water is supplied all year round, thanks to a heated birdbath.
Seasons and weather can be extreme here. Winter temperatures range from 0C (32F) to -45C (-49 F) but average around -15C (5F) to -20C (-4F) with 3 or 4 feet of snow most winters. Summer temperatures will range from 18C (65F) to 35C (95F) with an average around 24C (75F).
